About Quick Connect for Mainframes

Quick Connect is an application that coordinates and synchronizes the identity information between multiple connected data sources and Active Directory. Quick Connect employs the ActiveRoles Server administrative platform to automate the tasks of maintaining Active Directory objects in sync with external connected data sources. The use of advanced technologies minimizes the time required to synchronize the identity information.

In addition to connectors delivered with Quick Connect Sync Engine, Quick Connect for Mainframes allows you to install the connector to IBM RACF. With Quick Connect for Mainframes, you can synchronize the user information between IBM RACF and Active Directory.

Fixed: When deprovisioning objects from ActiveRoles Server to IBM RACF, Quick Connect fails to delete objects on IBM RACF, returning error messages similar to the following text: "An error occurred while deleting the object 'USER.' A protocol error occurred. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80072021)."

The table below outlines the hardware and software requirements for installing and running Quick Connect for Mainframes.

This release is Unicode-enabled and supports any character set. In this release, all product components should be configured to use the same or compatible character encodings and should be installed to use the same locale and regional options. This release is targeted to support operations in the following regions: North America, Western Europe and Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, Far-East Asia, Japan.

Licensing

To use Quick Connect for Mainframes, you need to obtain a license from Quest Software. The license specifies the maximum number of enabled user accounts in domains managed by ActiveRoles Server mapped to the connected system objects. When installing Quick Connect for Mainframes, you will be prompted to install the license key file purchased from Quest Software.

Important: You can install Quick Connect for Mainframes only on a computer running Quick Connect Sync Engine. 

Preparing to Installation

Before installing Quick Connect for Mainframes, install and configure ActiveRoles Quick Connect for Mainframes (bridge) 3.5.5 (referred to in this document as the LDAP Bridge) delivered with this installation package. This tool is an LDAP gateway that provides access to IBM Resource Access Control Facility (RACF).

Installation Instructions

Use the following steps to install Quick Connect for Mainframes :

1. On a computer running a 32-bit edition of Windows, install the delivered file "QuickConnectForMainframes_x86.msi"
   -- OR --
   On a computer running a 64-bit edition of Windows, install the delivered file "QuickConnectForMainframes_x64.msi."
   The Quest ActiveRoles Quick Connect for Mainframes Installation wizard starts.
2. On the Welcome page, click Next.
3. On the License Agreement page, select the I accept the license agreement option and click Next.
4. On the User Information page, specify your personal information, and then click Licenses.
   The License Manager dialog box opens.
5. In the License Manager dialog box, click Browse License, using the Open dialog box locate and open the license key file purchased from Quest Software, and then click Close.
6. On the Select Features page, ensure that all features you want to install are selected, and then click Next.
7. On the Ready to Install the Application page, review the installation settings you are going to use. To proceed with the installation process, click Next.
8. On the Completion page, click Finish to close the wizard.

Configuring Connections to the LDAP Bridge

After you install Quick Connect for Mainframes, use the ActiveRoles Quick Connect Administration console (hereafter the Quick Connect console) to configure connection to the LDAP Bridge.

To configure connection to the LDAP Bridge

1. Start the Quick Connect console: click Start, point to All Programs -> Quest Software-> ActiveRoles Quick Connect, and then click ActiveRoles Quick Connect Administration Console.
2. In the Quick Connect console, open the Connections tab, and then click the Click to add a new connected system link.
   The Add Connected System wizard starts.
3. On the Select connector and specify connection name page, in the Connection name text box, type the connection name; from the Select connector list, select RACF Connector, and then click Next.
   The Specify connection settings for ActiveRoles Quick Connect for Mainframes (bridge) page opens.
4. On the Specify connection settings for ActiveRoles Quick Connect for Mainframes (bridge) page, do the following:
   • In the Server text box, type the fully qualified DNS name of the computer running the LDAP Bridge.
   • In the Port text box, type the LDAP communication port number in use by the LDAP Bridge.
   • Under ActiveRoles Quick Connect for Mainframes (bridge), specify the login name and password of the user account under which the application will access the LDAP Bridge.
   • Optionally, click Advanced options to specify advanced options to access the LDAP Bridge.
5.  Click Next, and follow the provided instructions to complete the wizard.
