Welcome to Spotlight on Sybase ASE

Spotlight on Sybase ASE is a monitoring and diagnostic tool for Sybase Administrators. Its unique user interface provides you with an intuitive, visual representation of database activity. Graphical flows illustrate the movement of information throughout the Adaptive Server. Icons and contextual drilldowns provide key statistics and metrics.

Spotlight on Sybase no longer unexpectedly disconnects from 15.0.3 Windows services, which was caused by a Sybase ASE bug.

Note: If you experience the same problem, apply the latest Sybase ASE patch to fix the issue.

Spotlight on Sybase now detects if a temporary table exists before deleting it, which removes unnecessary errors from the debug log.

Installation You will no longer receive a "Class not registered" error when you install Spotlight for Sybase on Windows 2000 with service pack 4 and without rollup 1.

Note: You may receive the "Class not registered" error when you install Spotlight for Sybase on Windows 7. You can download and install the Microsoft Agent to solve this problem.

Install and Uninstall

When Spotlight is uninstalled, any registry keys that were created by the application are not removed. See the Installation chapter of the Getting Started Guide for instructions on removing the Spotlight registry keys.

You will receive the following errors when doing a silent installation of Spotlight on Windows Vista when UAC is enabled after following these steps:

1. Install Spotlight on Sybase ASE using the msi installer.

2. Uninstall Spotlight on Sybase ASE.

3. Install Spotlight on Sybase ASE again using the msi installer.

"This functionality is provided by the 'Spotlight Welcome' plug-in which is not installed on the system. Please contact Quest Software for information about obtaining the required plug-ins."

"No Spotlight plug-ins are installed on your system. Please contact Quest Software for information about obtaining and installing Spotlight plug-ins."

Workaround:

1. Uninstall Spotlight on Sybase ASE again.

2. Disable the User Access Control (UAC) option in Windows Vista.

3. Install Spotlight on Sybase ASE again using the msi installer.

General System processes are filtered out of the SQL Activity grid. As a result, SQL processes are also filtered out if the SQL was run prior to system monitoring and if the user is no longer logged in. N/A
The Total Wait Counts column under User Waits Activity resets and reports a negative count number for the "Spotlight" process ID. ST50555
If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7, you receive the error "A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to Debug?" when you access the "What's this" help.
Workaround: Click No and the help page will appear.

If you click Welcome to Spotlight | Spotlight on the Web | Spotlight® on Sybase ASE when using Windows Vista, you will receive an error window and Spotlight will close. ST57515

 

System Requirements

Before installing Spotlight for Sybase ASE, ensure your system meets the following minimum hardware and software requirements:

Platform 233 MHZ minimum
Memory

128 MB of RAM minimum; 256 MB of RAM recommended

Hard Disk Space 50MB
Monitor

1280 x 1024 or higher

Note: You should also set the display to use the 64K color palette (65536 colors) or higher.

Sound Card and Speakers Use to sound an alert when a threshold is reached.
Operating System

Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 with Update Rollup 1 or later

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 or later

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2

Microsoft Windows Vista

Database Client The installation program will install a database client if one is not installed.

This release is Unicode-enabled and supports any character set. In this release, all product components should be configured to use the same or compatible character encodings and should be installed to use the same locale and regional options. This release is targeted to support operations in the following regions: North America, Western Europe and Latin America, Far-East Asia, Japan.
