In addition, to take advantage of Toad's new Unicode support, you must be working with Oracle client/server 9i or above.

Oracle Client/Server Compatibility All versions of the Oracle client are not necessarily compatible with all versions of the Oracle Server. If the version of the Oracle client you are currently using is not compatible with the version of the Oracle server where your database resides, the incompatibilities may cause errors within Toad. For more detailed information about possible compatibility issues, see Oracle’s Metalinkarticle 207303.1 "Client / Server / Interoperability Support Between Different Oracle Versions".

Component Requirement
Platform 1 GHz minimum
Hard Disk Space 219 MB of disk space is required to run Toad
Memory

Windows XP Professional (32-bit or 64-bit)

Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit)

Windows Server 2008 (32-bit or 64-bit)

Important (SQL Server only): Toad uses the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC) when opening a SQL file to get Full-Text Search status, but DTC is disabled by default on Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. If you are using either operating system, ensure that Network DTC access is enabled on the Toad client. See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753510(WS.10).aspx for more information about enabling DTC access.

Additional Requirements

.NET Framework

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (Service Pack 1)

Note: The following conditions apply:

  • The .NET Framework Client Profile is not supported.
  • To run Toad, the .NET security policy must be set to unrestricted. See "User Requirements" (page 5) for more information.

Existing DB2 Client Support (DB2 native provider only)

Toad installs a DB2 9.5 client as part of the installation process. The DB2 9.5 client can co-exist with an existing DB2 8 client; however, it is incompatible with a DB2 7 client. If a DB2 7 client is already installed on the system, the Toad installation stops and cannot complete. You must upgrade to the DB2 8 client and restart the Toad installation to avoid losing functionality in some DB2 native tools.

Oracle Client

Toad can connect to Oracle using Direct Connect (no need for an Oracle Client) or can connect using an Oracle Client or Oracle Instant Client. However, if you want to use LDAP, you must install an Oracle Client. See "Configure Oracle LDAP Support" (page 5) for more information.Toad supports 9i or later Oracle Clients and Oracle Instant Clients. See "Create Oracle Connections" (page 5) for more information about configuring an Oracle Instant Client to work with Toad.

Spotlight on Oracle Version 6.1

System Requirements

Before installing Spotlight on Oracle, ensure your system meets the following minimum hardware and software requirements:

Platform

A Pentium-based or equivalent PC with:

  • A 1.2 GHz Processor (recommended minimum). The required processing power will increase when Spotlight diagnoses Oracle RAC clusters with many instances.
  • A monitor capable of supporting a resolution of 1280x1024 or larger. (You should also set the display to use the 64K color palette [65536 colors].)
  • A CD-ROM drive or Internet connection. Spotlight can be downloaded from the Internet or installed from compact disc. The CD-ROM drive should be attached to the PC on which Spotlight is to be installed. A drive mapped to a network device could be used if a local CD-ROM is not available.
  • A printer (optional). Spotlight reports can be printed on a laser or bubble jet printer. You can print graphs in color if your printer provides this capability.
  • A sound card and speakers (optional). Spotlight can use sound to alert you when a threshold is reached. You must have a sound card and speakers installed on your PC for this feature to work.
Memory

512 megabytes of RAM (minimum). 512 megabytes is a minimum RAM requirement (assuming no other applications are running), but 1 gigabyte of RAM is recommended. Memory consumption will increase as the number of instances in an Oracle RAC cluster increases, and will also depend on the connection options chosen.

Hard Disk Space

150 megabytes of free disk space. This should exist on a local disk drive rather than a network drive. Extra disk space will be required if you choose to log historical snapshots from within Spotlight.

Client Operating System

Windows 2000, Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP Professional, or Windows Vista Business. The following specific requirements exist:

  • Windows 2000: Service Pack 4 (or later) must be installed.
  • Windows XP: Service Pack 1 (or later) must be installed.
Additional Software
  • SQL*Net 2.3.4 or later. SQL*Net enables a connection to be established to a database. The database may be local or remote. Before you start Spotlight you must have the SQL*Net connection string for the database.
  • Oracle Client. (Oracle 9.2, Oracle 10g [full client or instant client], or Oracle 11g). Spotlight also requires that the version of the Oracle client be the same or later than the version of any Oracle database being diagnosed. For example, to connect to an Oracle 10g cluster, you must use an Oracle 10g client or later.
Database Server

The following Oracle database servers are supported for database queries. (You must have the Database Administrator [DBA] user ID and password for the database you want to diagnose.)

  • Oracle 9.2.0.4 or later
  • Oracle 10g (Release 1 or Release 2)
  • Oracle 11g (Release 1)
OS Server

The following server operating systems are supported for OS Server queries:

  • Sun Solaris 8, 9, 10
  • HP-UX 11i, 11i v2, 11i v3
  • IBM AIX 5.2, 5.3, 6.1
  • Red Hat and SUSE operating systems running Linux 2.4 and 2.6 kernels
  • Compaq 4.0f, 5.x
  • Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP1, Windows 2003 Server, or Windows 2008 Server.
  • Itanium server (HP-UX and Windows)

Notes:

  • Oracle connections ARE supported for Itanium operating systems, but OS commands are NOT.
  • Spotlight on Oracle RAC does NOT support OS server queries for Compaq 4.0f, 5.x servers or Itanium servers.
Oracle RAC Servers

Spotlight on Oracle RAC supports up to 16 instances in a cluster, with a theoretical limit of 36 instances.

Before installing Toad Data Modeler, ensure your system meets the following minimum hardware and software requirements:

Platform

Pentium IV

Memory

Minimum 256 MB

Hard Disk Space

100 MB

Operating System

Windows 2000/XP/Vista

Quest Code Tester for Oracle Version 1.8.4

Platform

1.0 GHz x86 compatible CPU

Memory

512 MB of RAM recommended

Hard Disk Space

40 MB of disk space for installation

Operating System

Windows 2000, 2003, XP Professional, Vista

Database/Client Versions

Database Server: Oracle 9i Database Release 2 (9.2.0.6 or above), Oracle Database 10g, Oracle Express Edition, and Oracle Database 11g Release

Database Client: Oracle SQL Net 9, 10 and 11, plus Instant Client. For Oracle 64bit servers, 32bit client is required.

Required Database Privileges

The schema in which you install Quest Code Tester must have these privileges:

CREATE PROCEDURE

CREATE SEQUENCE

CREATE SESSION

CREATE SYNONYM

CREATE TABLE

CREATE TRIGGER

CREATE VIEW

CREATE TYPE

Note 1: Quest Code Tester will create a schema with the necessary privileges as part of the installation process, when the create new user and install into new user schema option is selected on Step 2 of the Repository Wizard.

Note 2: We recommend that you install Quest Code Tester into its own schema, and create public synonyms so that all developers will be able to use Quest Code Tester and share their test definitions. This will also help you keep application code distinct from the Quest Code Tester code base. To do this, your schema must also have CREATE and DROP PUBLIC SYNONYM privileges.
