New in LiteSpeed for SQL Server 6.0

Compression Levels

• New, improved, and simplified database backup compression algorithms (8 levels) that offer even better CPU usage and compression characteristics and include our new extreme compression levels 7 and 8 that provide much improved compression over previous releases

Backup Analyzer

• Now you can schedule your Backup Analyzer tests. Using Backup Analyzer, find out what combination of compression, encryption, and striping combinations work best. Schedule tests to run at a specified time that best reflects your backup window

Double-Click Restore Backups

• Using the new xp_slsCreateDCR extended stored procedure, convert a regular LiteSpeed backup to a Double-Click Restore backup, a self-executing and self-extracting backup that can be restored on servers that do not have LiteSpeed installed
• Improved to handle large backups without manual striping

Maintenance Plans

• Reuse and leverage existing plans and subplans on current or other server instances by using the new copy/paste, export/import Maintenance Plan features
• Simplify custom database selection using wildcards and regular expressions
• Improved maintenance plan runtime reporting

Network Resiliency

• More robust behavior when encountering unexpected network write issues. LiteSpeed will wait and retry failed write operations, allowing backups to continue after momentary network connection issues

Restore Wizard

• Specify the exact point in time to recover by using the new Restore Wizard point-in-time recovery slider

Support for SQL Server 2008 Data Types

• The Log Reader and the Object Level Recovery (OLR) tools now support the following data types: DATETIMEOFFSET, DATETIME2, DATE, TIME, HIERARCHYID, GEOMETRY, GEOGRAPHY

Fast Compression

• The SmartDiff feature has been renamed to Fast Compression
