Provisioning Unix and Linux Accounts with MIIS and Vintela Authentication Services

Combining Microsoft Identity Integration Server with Quest’s Vintela Authentication Services provides a simple and cost effective identity management solution.  Provisioning Unix and Linux users is simplified.  Integrating the Unix and Linux platforms with Active Directory allows organizations to automatically create a true, automated, enterprise-wide single sign-on solution for Unix and Linux systems.

This prescriptive guidance, prepared by Oxford Computer Group, describes:

  • Configuring MIIS to import Unix users from an authoritative source
  • Scripts and sample provisioning code to automatically create new AD accounts
  • Configuring Active Directory to support Unix/Linux-specific attributes
  • Creating enterprise-wide single sign-on for Unix and Linux systems
  • Managing Unix/Linux-specific attributes in Active Directory

Vintela Authentication Services enables using Kerberos for Unix client authentication against credentials stored in Active Directory.   Microsoft Identity Integration Server automatically creates the Vintela Authentication Services-enabled accounts in Active Directory.  This combination improves productivity and reduces the total cost of ownership while improving overall security and manageability.
