Quest One Quick Connect for Virtual Directory Server is a middleware application that abstracts back-end data from client applications, making it possible to modify the presentation of data on the fly. Therefore, you can easily integrate new applications into your existing identity infrastructure without having to alter directory information — your data remains in its original place and format. The solution has been ported to, and optimized for, all major platforms, allowing it to run in environments where a variety of operating systems are used. It provides a single granular security policy for all back-end repositories and improves overall performance through load balancing and search caching. Quite simply, Virtual Directory Server is the most powerful and flexible software component you can add to improve the operation and administration of your enterprise directory services.

  • Increases performance – The solution includes a collection of load balancing and failover algorithms, search caching for LDAP requests and powerful request routing functionality.
  • Improves security – Granular filtering controls effective firewall operations and network traffic. An ACL plug-in allows you to develop a single security policy and apply it to all back-end servers, and a number of powerful logging utilities enable auditing and data recovery.
  • Offers built-in manageability – Flexible remote administration and configuration options can be accessed from either a Java-based GUI or a standard Web browser. The solution also includes a huge collection of plug-ins to automate tasks as well as integrated health checking facilities.

Protocol support includes LDAP(S), Kerberos, HTTP(S)/Web Services (SOAP/XACML/SPML/Others), RADIUS, DIAMETER, MM7, SMPP, SIP and Raw TCP/UDP. In particular, it includes an LDAP-to-RDBMs bridge, so that LDAP clients are able to access data stored within a relational database as if it were part of an original Directory Information Tree (DIT).
